Region: France » Loire Valley
Producer: Domaine de Bernier
This juicy little number is from the northern region of the Loire Valley in France, and is made by a very good Muscadet producer. This helps explain why although the wine is 100% Chardonnay, it is fresh and thirst quenching, versus overly oaky and round. Made by the Couillaud brothers of Château de la Ragotière in Muscadet, their 20 year old Chardonnay vines are planted to soil almost identical to that of their Muscadet vines. This is a mix of clay and chalk, which gives the wine depth and complexity. Farmed naturally according to the European Terra Vitis, the wine is so fresh, unoaked, clean and bright, and 100% estate bottled. Look for tropical fruit aromas of pineapples, yellow peaches, apricots & tangerines leading to clean citrusy fruit in the fruity mouth and a hint of white stone on the finish. Serve with cold shellfish, Chilean sea bass, poached salmon or mango shrimp dishes; or with Lemon Wensleydale cheese, Manchego sheep’s milk, lemon spread and crackers; or even with sushi and sashimi.
